Registration to Intermediate Course
A person desirous of becoming a Registered Student is to apply to the Institute in the prescribed Form I with appropriate fees and to produce documentary evidence to the satisfaction of the Council that he/ she
(a) is not less than 18 years of age on the date of his/her application; and
(b) has passed any of the following Examinations:
- A degree Examination of any recognised University or equivalent
- A degree (honors) examination of any recognised University.
- A Master Degree Examination of any recognised University or any of the Indian Institute of Management
- An Engineering Degree Examination. of any recognised University or any of the Indian Institute of Technology Or the Indian Institute of Science
- The Final Examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England and Wales, or Scotland or Ireland or the Final Examination of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, London or of the Final Examination of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India
- Section 'A' and Section 'B' Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) or equivalent.
- Subordinate Accounts Service Examination conducted by the Central / State Government Organisations
- Part I and Part II of Banking Examinations styled C.A.I.I.B.
- Any other examinations as may be recognised by the Council for the purpose of admission as a registered student of the Institute.
The Registration of student does not confer any membership rights nor does entitle a person so registered to be a member of the Institute or of its Regional Councils.
Provisional Registration
Persons who have appeared in any of the examinations mentioned above and are awaiting result may apply for provisional registration in the prescribed form to the respective Regional Council. They should submit the pass result to the respective Regional Council with a copy to the Director of Studies, ICWAI, 12 Sudder Street, Kolkata-700016. . Failure to submit the pass result within the prescribed time limit tantamount to cancellation of the provisional registration and forfeiture of the registration and tuition fee paid.
Methodology of Registration
(a) Every person applying for registration as a student is to pay a student registration fee of Rs. 500/-.
(b) For registration, students are required to submit the prescribed Form I and the identity card duly filled in and signed.
(c) Registration Fees can be paid by Demand Draft drawn or any scheduled bank favoring"The Institute of Cost and works Accountants of India; payable at Kolkata. Payment by cash or by any other mode is not acceptable.
The application form for Registration is to be submitted to the respective Regional Council except De Novo registration cases.
Refund of Student Registration Fee
Every person whose application for registration is not accepted shall be entitled to a refund of student registration fee paid by him.
Time Limit for Cancellation of Registration
(a) A Registered Student is required to successfully complete the Intermediate and Final Examinations of the Institute within a period of seven years from the date of registration failing which his / her registration shall be cancelled.
(b) Registration of a student shall also be cancelled if he / she fails to appear at least in One stage of the Intermediate Examination within a period of three years from the date of his / her registration.
Registration "DE NOVO"
A student' whose registration has been cancelled on account of his / her failure to complete the Intermediate and Final Examinations within a period of seven years from the date of his / her registration, may, if he / she so desires, apply for DE NOVO registration in the prescribed Form 'I' and on his / her application being granted, he / she be deemed for all purposes to have admitted as a DE NOVO registered student. He / she shall be entitled to exemption from the individual subject(s) of the Intermediate or Final Examination, both for Coaching and Examination as the case may be, previously secured by him/her under his/her former registration. The benefit of "DE NOVO" Registration may be availed of only once. Granting of "DE NOVO" Registration once again shall be at the discretion of the Director of Studies in case of those who have availed themselves of the benefit of "DENOVO" Registration earlier.
Registration Afresh
A student whose registration has been cancelled on account of his / her failure to appear at least in one stage of the Intermediate Examination within three years from the date of his registration, may, if he / she so desires, apply for Afresh Registration in the prescribed 'Form I and on his / her application being granted, he / she shall be entitled to exemption from the individual subject(s) of the Intermediate Examination both for Coaching and Examination as the case may be, previously secured by him / her under former registration.
Either in case of DE NOVO or Registration Afresh a student is required to pay Rs. 2000/- as Re-registration fee with his /her application in Form I.

A candidate seeking registration as a student should send his application for registration to respective Regional Council. The address of each Regional Council and the area covered by the region are given below:

Changing over from one Regional Council to another
Subsequent to Registration with any Regional Council of the Institute, if a student changes his / her address to outside India, he / she shall be required to enroll for Postal Tuition under the same Regional Council so that appropriate track record of the Students' Progress can be maintained in the Regional Council itself. Such category of registered students shall also be required to remit additional postal charges to the extent of Rs.960/- per stage or equivalent thereto for sending Study Materials and return of assessed Answer Scripts to them.
